The Chiricahua Land Conservancy (CLC)
is a nonprofit organization founded in 2021 in Portal, AZ, to foster long-term citizen-based stewardship of the natural ecosystems and scenic landscapes of the Chiricahua and Peloncillo Mountains and the San Simon Valley that connects them.
We work collaboratively with willing landowners and other partners to preserve scenic beauty, protect habitat for wildlife, and encourage sustainable and traditional land use.

Announcement:
New Conservation Property!
We’re excited to announce the addition of the Limestone Mountain Property to our portfolio of protected lands! This ecologically significant site features rugged limestone outcrops, native grasslands, and vital wildlife habitat that supports species such as Coues deer, Montezuma quail, and a variety of pollinators.
The protection of Limestone Mountain marks another important step in our mission to conserve the unique biodiversity of the Sky Island region. Stay tuned for updates on restoration efforts, volunteer opportunities, and ways you can get involved.
Conservation
The CLC seeks to protect riparian and other sensitive habitats, promote habitat connectivity, preserve landscapes, encourage sustainable land use, and prevent fragmentation. We work with willing partners to preserve our region’s biological and historical values in perpetuity.
Privately-owned land comprises 60% of the United States, but only 3% of it is protected for conservation. Private property owners play an important role in conservation at the landscape level. We help connect property owners with resources to realize their conservation goals.

We envision a Chiricahua-Peloncillo region where people and nature coexist in harmony, native species thrive, and all live and work together to ensure the health and diversity of the ecosystems that sustain and inspire us.
Conservancies and Land trusts are typically nonprofit corporations organized under Section 501(c)( 3) of the Internal Revenue Code to protect land for its natural, historic, recreation or scenic value. Most are small organizations – usually with few staff, supported by a volunteer board of directors.
Where is the Chiricahua-Peloncillo region located?
The Chiricahua-Peloncillo region is located in southeastern Arizona in Cochise County, near the town of Portal, and in southwestern New Mexico in Hidalgo County, near the town of Rodeo. The Chiricahua and Peloncillo Mountains are part of the Coronado National Forest and other public lands in the area, and are known for their incredible biodiversity, striking rock formations, and cultural significance.

What Makes the Chiricahua-Peloncillo Region Unique?
